KOCH was originally founded as a family business by Emilie Koch in 1945 in Wadgassen, Germany. The company began by undertaking restoration and repair work in regional iron and steel works, coal mines, and railroads that had been heavily damaged during the war. In 1946, Karl Koch brought his expertise in material handling equipment to the company, leading to the establishment of the first production facilities and an engineering office. In the early 1950s, KOCH began manufacturing blending plants and storage facilities, including bucket wheel excavators and Shiploaders. 

In the following decades, KOCH significantly expanded its product portfolio. During the 1960s and 1970s, the company developed belt conveyor systems with capacities of up to 24,000 t/h and specialized in homogenization systems as well as unique bulk material unloading systems. The development and optimization of the TKF drag chain conveyor technology and the construction of industrial plants, including clinker grinding plants in Guinea, Togo, and Benin, solidified KOCH's reputation as an innovator.

In the 1980s, KOCH expanded its activities in environmental technology. In 1985, the company obtained an exclusive license for the Pipe Conveyor System, which later became known worldwide as the KOCH Pipe Conveyor®. In the 1990s, KOCH integrated expertise in rolling mill technology and expanded its competencies in electrical systems through the acquisition of IPS Industrial Systems. With the acquisition of coking plant technology from Saarberg in 2000, KOCH completed its product range and increasingly focused on the construction of turnkey industrial plants.

In 2007, KOCH Transporttechnik GmbH and KOCH Austria became part of the FFE Minerals Group, the mineral processing division of the Danish FLSmidth Group. This integration provided KOCH with access to a global network and a broader product portfolio, including crushing, sizing, and processing technologies. Significant projects from this period include the world’s longest pipe conveyor in Peru and numerous turnkey industrial plants in Nigeria, Venezuela, and Germany.

In 2019, KOCH restructured and began operating under the new name KOCH Solutions, with the majority ownership held by Jiangsu Rainbow Heavy Industries Group. This restructuring allowed KOCH to focus on its core competencies and expand its market presence.

In 2023, KOCH Solutions acquired major parts of the Bulk Material Handling division from FLSmidth, including FLS' previous investments: Thyssenkrupp Fördertechnik and Sandvik Mining Systems. This strategic acquisition enhanced KOCH's capabilities and expanded its portfolio, reinforcing the company's position as a leading provider of material handling solutions worldwide.
